Hong Kong - Asean Summit 2023

Driving Strategic Connectivity for Regional Growth
October 9, 2023 | Conrad Hong Kong | Hybrid Conference

    ABOUT THE SUMMIT

Hong Kong– Asean Summit 2023 brings together business leaders, policymakers and entrepreneurs from Hong Kong, China and the wider region to discuss and debate what the immediate future holds for Hong Kong while considering the city’s long-term position within the Greater Bay Area, China and Asean.

Asean shows strong resilience and growth, despite global economic uncertainty and multifaceted challenges, with a lot of optimism for the regional bloc being voiced. The bloc grew 5.5 per cent last year and an average 4 per cent increase annually in the past decade. According to government statistics, Asean was Hong Kong’s second-largest trading partner in 2022 with trade amounting to HK$1.29 trillion or 13.7 per cent of the city’s total. Moreover, Asean members could benefit from a potential increase in trade and investments as the world’s two economic powerhouses forge stronger ties with Asean nations through RCEP or CPTPP. The bloc is an attractive destination for foreign direct investments (FDI) as multinational businesses are diversifying their supply chains or finding cheaper production hubs in Southeast Asia.

Strengthening ties with Asean nations holds immense importance to Hong Kong’s post-pandemic economic recovery. Recognising this, Hong Kong’s Chief Executive led a distinguished delegation to Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia to seize business opportunities and consolidate support for the city to join the world’s largest free-trade pact, RCEP.

Against this backdrop, Hong Kong – Asean Summit 2023 aims to discuss and debate connectivity strategies for regional growth. Issues will include the future of trade and investment, plus physical connectivity and sustainability between Hong Kong and Asean countries. With Hong Kong’s strategic location, world-class infrastructure, and vibrant business community, find out how the city is uniquely positioned to serve as a gateway to Asean and beyond.
